Dr. Kim:
I thought I was a happily married for 26 years until my husband served me with divorce papers at my job. Since I work in human resources, I thought it was merely a Fed-ex package, and I was devastated to know that my husband was not happy and wanted to end our marriage. I could not believe that his wishes for a divorce came through the mail instead of him telling me face to face. During the divorce, he did not want to pay his half of the cost which came up to $4,000…$8, 000 total, so we were forced to go to court to settle our differences in June 2003. We both had attorneys and after a full day of debating, he did agree to half the bills, but we had to sell the house we had built right next door to his parents. Dr. Kim, the strange thing is that we left court that day and went to dinner. Even today, we never really act like we have gone through a divorce. The only change is that he now lives with his mom, and I have just recently bought a house without him, but everything else has stayed exactly the same.
We go to church together and talk to each other every single day.
I want more than just seeing him and being around him. I still love him very much, and I know he loves me, but I do not think he will marry me again until something happens to his mother because he promised his dad that he would see to it that she would be taken care of.
I guess my question from all of this is should I continue to exist with him or move forward to have someone else in my life that appreciates me. I think he really takes me for granted that I will be there. I do not want to grow old alone, and I do not like the dating scene. I am desperate and don’t know what to do.
